Can an electricity pole be moved from my garden?

I have a very small back garden with a low power electricity pole ( and bt line attatched.) It is not on a boudary but just off centre. Is it harmful? Can it be moved?

Can an electricity pole be moved from my garden?
It is not harmful.

If it is on your property, you or a previous owner must have granted a wayleave - a legally binding agreement allowing the pole to be put there. There is usually a very small payment (a few £ per year) involved but so small it would not actually make any difference to you.

You MIGHT get the owner to move the pole if there is a viable alternative location but, as others have said, they will expect you to pay.

If the pole is not on your property (the question is not 100% clear), you are unlikely to get them to move it.
Reply:It would appear to be a telegraph pole, carrying telephone services into your house, and even a neighbour's.

It would have been paid for and agreed by a previous owner, if you desire to have it moved for some reason think of about £800 which you would have to pay out.

As it is not carrying high voltage, it is not in the least dangerous
Reply:Yeah, move it
Reply:its not harmful, but to be moved it would cost alot of money... several thousand pounds... not worth it unless ur a millionaire and i imagine ur not if u have such a small plot of land
Reply:at great expense by you , it is not harmful
Reply:It would involve a lot of work but be aware you should be entitled to "rent" from the company concerned, for having their property on your land.
Reply:Get an axe.
Reply:Hello,

(ANS) I think you may be surprised to discover that the pole in question is the property of either BT or the electrical utility company ( such as Scottish power, or N power, or Manweb etc).

Meaning that if its NOT actually on your property you have no chance of having it moved, I know I had this same problem with BT who put up a massive telegraph pole outside my house. But because its not on my property (its outside my boundary wall thus is considered in the public street) I have no control over the location of the pole. I took my case to OFCOM who were totally %26amp; utterly NOT sympathetic and thus up went the pole anyway. :-((

**BT phone lines, poles %26amp; the flying wires have no harmful effects whats so ever, because they don't emit any radiation or electromagnetic fields, or ones that are so weak they are no risk to human health.

**unless you have "exceptional good" reasons or your arguments are very solid to have the pole %26amp; wires moved, I personally doubt you have much chance of having the offending pole etc moved.

Kind Regards Ivan
Reply:Yes its dangerous and it can be moved, no question.
